Today's missive comes from the side of a very sweaty leisure centre pool while I watch my kids play in the fountains. It's about 36 degrees, I have a warm Pepsi Max (I'm a Coke Zero girl so IYKYK), and I forgot my book. At some point I'll have to help wrestle said children out of their swimsuits and into clothes and then try and keep them awake in the car on the way home. I just messaged my bestie to remind her of when we used to have brunch instead of this.
This does have a point.
Six years ago if you'd told me I'd have two kids and get to watch them swim on the weekend I would have begged you for that to be true. Having kids was all I wanted and, being honest, the journey to get here was not straightforward.
Careers are the same. We spend years chasing after the director job, the team leader role or the damehood- but we forget the game is the journey not the destination. So my tips today are on self-reflection management- not looking forward.
