Welcome to this week’s question and answer missive- thank you to everyone who sent in a question, I promise to get through them all!
There seems to be a bit of a theme of delegation at the moment, and getting that balance right. Delegating effectively is not quick, it is not easy, and sometimes it feels like it wasn’t even worth it. But, if you “teach a man person to fish, they will never go hungry again”- right?
Well, I think it is kind of true, kind of not. Yes, if you teach a person in your team to do a task, they won’t/shouldn’t have to keep asking you how to do it. But how many of us are really in jobs with endlessly repeatable tasks? Why don’t you just use ChatGPT- it doesn't need to be taught to fish? What happens when the fisher is more senior than you? Or when the rod stops working like it should? Or the seas are rough? And worse (really stretching the analogy now...)- what happens when they are ready to start hunting too, or fishing more and faster than the ocean can provide?
With all of those questions, let's get into the answers!
